Mōmotu ahi - Firebrand

When Māori travelled from their homes, they would take burning embers with them and upon arriving at a new location would use these to ignite a new fire. These embers were known as 'mōmotu ahi' or their firebrand. This new fire would connect them back to the whenua, the people, and the fires still burning in their homelands.
This candle is called Mōmotu ahi and is inspired by the connection between fire and identity. Personalised messages or pepeha (tribal mottos) can be added to this candle, and when ignited, will symbolise your home, your people, your identity.
Written on the side of this candle is a karakia (incantation) called a hika ahi. This was chanted by Māori when starting their fire.
Mōmotu ahi is the gift of connection. Light Mōmotu ahi when you want to acknowledge, mourn or celebrate your homelands and loved ones. Use it to reconnect at times when you can't be there in person, or as a reminder of where you come from and who you are.

RETURNS
We do our best at Wiks Candles to ensure the product you order is the product you receive, but sometimes things happen beyond our control.
We will happily replace your products if they are defective or damaged. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

Each candle is handpoured with care by Wiks. We want to make sure you get the best out of your candle.
When burning your candle for the first time, ensure the wax melts to the edge of the vessel to prevent tunneling.
Trim your wick before you burn your candle to create a clean burn.
Do not burn lower than .5cm from the bottom.
Never leave unattended.
Now sit back, relax, light your candle and enjoy x
